That's really annoying- if I recall Army Painter touts color matching with their spray just to avoid this very problem. Although I don't want to use Mephiston Red for Blood Angles cause it's too dull and dim color and it is more similar to brick color than pure bright red I wanna use. I've painted only with GW paints before, and I didn't have the same problem with them. I didn't want to recolor - I wanted to use it just to fix mistakes, but I noticed that I am fixing mistakes with pretty different color and instead just creating patches of new color. It's much lighter, more pinkish/orangish, and the texture is not smooth at all. The model on the left - the one I've tried to recolor with Pure Red paint. The model on the right primed in Pure Red with spray - the color is rich and bright. It's probably doesn't matter, but I've noticed that my spray made in Italy and the usual paint in Denmark. I use a wet palette and dilute the paint with water. I thought my problem is in not shaking the bottle enough, so I bought ball bearings and shook it with them - but the texture of the paint is still weird, very runny. The color is different, the texture is runny and jelly at the same time, 4 coats do not make a smooth cover. Then I've started basecoating other parts with other colors and made a bunch of mistakes and bought Army Painter Pure Red in its usual non-spray format just for fixing mistakes.Īaaaand. I've primed my minis with Army Painter Pure Red Spray and it looked awesome! That's the brightest red shade I've ever seen, much more bright than GW Mephiston Red, that I used before. I've only painted 5 minis in my life, therefore I don't know much and need your help with this problem. There if you are in search for a new Ink, give them a try. And if you use already Army Painter paints they match perfectly to this color range (and colored spray primers). With the dropper bottles and the right price, I think they are the perfect solution for me. If you want to have it stronger, you can always shade twice. For me they have just the right consistency to play with. Green | Red | Blue | Purple | Strong | Soft | Dark | Pure PrimerĬonclusioTo make it short: I like the Army Painter Inks. Please don't ask me how these colors are named in the new Citadel range, I honestly have no clue and I don't care anymore :)įollowing a more detailed view of the colors, without the bottles: Dark Tone is a good replacement for Badab Black and Strong Tone for Devlan Mud. But that could also be because of the gray primer (and no metal basecoat). The only thing I see is that if you want to replace old Gryphonne Sepia with the Soft Tone you will miss the slight reddish tone of Gryphonne Sepia. They come pretty close, maybe event a perfect replacement. With a special eye on the Soft/Strong/Dark tone I tried to compare them with the old Devlan Mud and stuff.
